Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Mukteshwar
Arrive at Camp Purple in Mukteshwar, where the Himalayas begin to unfold. Explore Chauli ki Jaali, the old Dak Bungalow, and quiet colonial remnants, before an evening briefing that sets the tone for your Darma Valley geology trail.
Day 2: Mukteshwar to Dharchula
Drive from Mukteshwar to Dharchula, as the landscape shifts from forested hills to deeper Himalayan valleys. Along the way, pause at key geological formations, river valleys, and viewpoints that begin to reveal the region’s layered past.
Day 3: Dharchula to Baling (Darma Valley)
Enter Darma Valley, switching to local vehicles permitted in the region. The route winds through dramatic terrain before arriving at Baling village, where stone homes, mountain air, and quiet isolation begin to define the experience.
Day 4: Go, Phillum & Bonh Villages
Hike to the remote villages of Go, Phillum, and Bonh, set away from common trekking routes. Here, everyday life unfolds among stones from the ancient Tethys Sea, with the Panchachuli peaks appearing in the distance.
Day 5: Panchachuli Glacier Snout
Trek to the Panchachuli Glacier snout at 3900 metres, where ice, river, and rock converge. The Dhauliganga valley reveals glacial formations and sediment in raw detail, set against the towering Panchachuli massif.
Day 6: Panchachuli Base Camp to Nagling
Hike from Duktu to Panchachuli Base Camp at 4100 metres, crossing glacial moraines and expansive valleys. Spend time beneath the peaks before continuing to Nagling village, where the landscape begins to feel quieter and more remote.
Day 7: Vyasi Bugyal & Return to Dharchula
Hike towards the Vyasi Bugyal and the Nagling glacier valley, where deep crustal rocks and open landscapes define the terrain. Return to Nagling before driving back to Dharchula, bringing the valley experience to a close.
Day 8: Dharchula to Kathgodam
Drive back from Dharchula to Kathgodam or Sattal, retracing the route through the Kumaon Himalayas. The journey out feels slower, as the scale of the mountains gives way to gentler foothills.
Instead of ending the journey, you can also extend the tour to cover the beautiful environs of Sattal.

- Stay Experience: Accommodation ranges from well-appointed safari tents and a mountain lodge in Mukteshwar to simple, clean hotels in Dharchula, and traditional stone homestays in Darma Valley, offering an authentic glimpse into Himalayan mountain life.
- Food & Meals: All meals are freshly prepared using local, seasonal ingredients. Expect simple, wholesome Himalayan cuisine with homemade jams, juices, and no reliance on canned or processed food.
- Getting There: Access is via Kathgodam or Pantnagar, connected by flights, trains, and overnight buses from Delhi. From here, it’s a scenic 6–8 hour drive into the hills toward Mukteshwar.
- Transport on the Trail: Comfortable sedans or SUVs are used until Dharchula. Beyond this, specially permitted local vehicles operate within Darma Valley, ensuring both safety and compliance with regional regulations.
